What small leaks are really worth

Cancelling three subscriptions will not change your life. It is still worth doing, for a reason nobody mentions.

1The honest sum

Four recurring costs at 300 a month each is 14 400 a year. Real money, and not transformative. Anyone promising that cancelling them changes your position is selling something.

2Why do it anyway

Because the exercise forces you to list what you are actually paying for, and the list is almost always wrong in a more interesting way than the total. People find a service they stopped using two years ago, and a cost they thought was annual that is monthly.

The value is not the money saved. It is finding out that the list in your head and the list on the statement are different lists.

3Where the real money is

Three places, in order: what you pay for housing, what you pay to borrow, and what you pay for transport. Those three move the number by multiples. Subscriptions move it by percentages.

Start with the small leaks if it gets you looking. Do not stop there, because stopping there is how a month of effort returns 1 200 taka.
